What is Robocup Junior?
Robocup Junior is a project-oriented educational initiative that supports local, regional and international robotic events for young people. It is designed to introduce Robocup to primary and secondary students with a key focus on education. Robocup Junior provides international opportunities with a key purpose of fostering artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics research by providing a standard problem across settings.
The ultimate goal of Robocup is to create a team of fully autonomous humanoid robot soccer players which shall play (and win!) a soccer game against the (human) world champions by mid 21st century.
Robocup Junior Australia and the Robocup Junior Educational Competition were introduced to Australia in Melbourne in 2000. Since its introduction, Australia has experienced exponential growth where major competitions are held in every state, supported by multiple regional competitions. Robocup Junior is now played in 30 countries around the world and is a regular feature of the annual university run Robocup World Finals. Robocup Junior promotes a variety of skills that extend across a school curriculum including:
